A Promise Kept

I’m excited that my flash fiction story A Promise Kept was published online at 101words.org on October 26, 2022.

Though this piece is fiction, it was inspired by a customer who came into Wild Birds Unlimited when I was working alone a few years ago. She was shopping for a new hummingbird feeder. She moved slowly and I noticed sadness behind her steel blue eyes.

When I escorted her to the area where the feeders were displayed, she told me that her husband had recently passed away after a long illness. Before his death, he’d promised to find a way to let her know that he was on the other side.
